For Robyn, our moderator :-) I have a question for you Robyn that I was going to ask you privately but I reconsidered since I thought that maybe others would like the answer you give. For those of you who don't know, Robyn has a background in healthcare (psychology, etc.) and so I value her opinion on this question.
I was watching a young woman sing a song recently and it was so beautiful to me that I literally started to cry. I have had the same feeling before but whenever others are around, I have always repressed the urge to emote (for lack of a better word). This doesn't happen often but I have considered why it is that sometimes people react with tears when they are happy or when they experience something wonderful. I realize that each situation and person is different, but I would like your insight Robyn if you have any to offer on this topic. Thanks either way...

Hi Thomas. I think most people hold wounds, and memories of special moments that are coupled with sentimentality within, and when hearing or seeing certain things, these are triggered.
There is a great release of chemicals in our bodies at these times, and studies have shown that the chemicals in tears of sadness are different combinations to those tears of happiness.
Also, each musical note has a vibration, as does each organ of our bodies and when some combinations of these sound vibrations occur, and the performer whether voice or instrument, executes them well, can 'dislodge' memories stored in our tissue and organs but also can just connect us to the beauty of Creation.
Sentimentality is not a neutral/positive activity, and pulls one into an unbalanced state, which of course affects the psyche. One must be careful to come back to balance as soon as one can at these times.

This version of Pavarotti - Nessun Dorma always brings a tear to my eyes at the end. I never knew why until now it seems. Thanks Robyn, that explains it well.
(btw, i love how those high C's at the end make my hair stand on end!)

There are not many women whom possess the quality of a beautiful voice that can have an affect people. I my self have experience a female voice that gave me a new respect for such a talented lady. Her name is Haley Westenra.

it is very interesting, but the point of interest I am referring to, starts around 20 minutes into the video
I feel that sound has deep connection to the many (what humans call) mysteries of the universe and life.
